A pinger you can throw away and keep throwing. The single point of damage is almost an afterthought; what makes the card a real fixture in the right shell is that retrace turns every flooded draw into ammunition. A land you would otherwise discard or never play becomes another ping, which means the spell scales with exactly the resource that usually does nothing late in a game. The math is grim and patient: feed it lands and it picks off mana dorks, dome the opponent a point at a time, or chip down a toughness-one defensive line over several turns. It rewards graveyard recursion engines and any deck that wants a repeatable, mana-light way to convert excess lands into a slow clock or a one-shot removal valve. The constraint is that each recast still costs the red mana plus a land in hand, so it is never free and never fast: it is a grindy resource exchange, not a burst. That patience is also the appeal. Against a deck trying to win quickly, a card that gets better the longer the game goes and that turns your worst draws into relevant action is a quietly oppressive thing to be staring down across the table.
