Flash is what lets this Aura moonlight as a combat trick, and the timing is the entire reason to run it. Auras have always fought card disadvantage: commit one to a creature, watch it die in response, and you are down two cards for a spell that never did anything. This one hedges by arriving mid-combat, after blocks are declared, when the information you are buying is worth the most. It does not lock the opponent out (they still get priority while it sits on the stack, and again before combat damage, to bounce the creature, kill it, or pump their blocker), but it collapses the window in which those answers matter, because you are casting with full knowledge of a board they cannot yet read. The temporary first strike is the payload; the +2/+0 is the residue. Drop it on a creature that just got blocked and the equation flips: your attacker connects first, kills the blocker before it swings back, and walks away clean. You still spent a card to do it, so it is an even trade rather than a bad one, but you keep the creature and they lose theirs, which is exactly the exchange an unenhanced block was denying you. Cast it on an unblocked attacker and the first strike is dead weight, though the pump lingers as a lasting threat. The design is honest about which half earns its keep and when: the reason to hold it up rather than enchant precombat is the first-strike burst you unlock by waiting for blocks. It plays an Aura the way red has long wanted to and rarely had the instant-speed timing to manage.
