The two abilities are pulling in opposite directions, and that tension is the whole design. The combat trigger wants this thing connecting every turn, stripping the opponent's hand a card at a time and letting you cast what you steal: pure card-advantage predation built around a flying clock. The regeneration clause, meanwhile, asks you to feed it, sacrificing a Human to keep a 3/3 flier alive through a block or a removal spell. That cost is a small joke worn on the card's sleeve: a Vampire that survives by consuming the very tribe it preys on, with the predator-and-prey theme baked straight into the activation rather than the flavor text. Mechanically it sits in a narrow but pointed slot: a midrange black evasive threat whose real payoff is recurring theft, not the body. The exile-and-play mode is more generous than most pilfering effects of its era, which tended to merely discard; here the card you take becomes yours to play indefinitely, so a single unblocked hit can flip a key spell across the table. The catch is the obvious one for any "deals combat damage" engine: a 3/3 has to actually land the blow, and the regeneration only matters if you have Humans to spend. It wants a board that can protect the connection and a deck stocked with sacrificial bodies, which is a specific ask for a five-mana flier whose payoff arrives only on the turns it gets through.
