Field Surgeon

The genius of the design is that it turns your board into ammunition for a damage-prevention shield, taxing your own creatures' tap states rather than your hand or your life total. Each activation is small (one point, one target, this turn only), but the engine repeats as many times as you have untapped creatures to commit, which means a wide board can stack prevention to blank a single big attacker or soak chip damage across a turn. That structure rewards going wide for reasons that have nothing to do with attacking: bodies become a renewable defensive resource, and a token swarm becomes a turn's worth of free shields. The cost discipline that keeps it fair is the tap, not the mana: you spend board presence and lose those creatures' ability to block or attack the same turn, so every shield is a real tactical trade rather than a free repeatable effect. It lands in the long tradition of white prevention pieces that ask you to value a point of damage the way other colors value a card, and it sits at the modest end of that tradition: a fragile body whose work is entirely about converting a crowded board into incremental protection.
