Femeref Healer

Creature — Human Cleric1 generic manaWhite mana

Damage prevention from an era that priced it carefully, and the rate tells you exactly how seriously Wizards took the mechanic then. The tap ability shaves a single point off any incoming damage, which is the whole design: a 1/1 cleric that contributes nothing in combat exists only to repeat that trickle. The ceiling is the friction. Against one fat attacker the Healer buys a point per turn, a rounding error against anything serious; against a wide board of small creatures, or a burn spell that comes up a sliver short of lethal, that single shaved point can close the window an opponent needed. Prevention as a mechanic lived in this granularity, where the right point removed at the right moment changes a math problem. The "any target" wording is generous for its day, letting the prevention sit on a blocker in combat or on a player's life total with equal ease, but tap-for-one keeps the card squarely in the realm of incidental defensive filler rather than an engine. It belongs to a lineage of small white clerics whose job was to make aggressive starts a touch less lethal, a role the color filled with repeatable trickles before lifegain and prevention drifted toward bigger, flashier effects and left this kind of patient, one-tap defense behind.
