Far Traveler

A Background is a deckbuilding slot before it is a permanent: it grafts its rider onto every commander creature you own, so pairing it with your commander hands that leader a repeatable flicker keyed to the tail end of your turn. Timing is the whole constraint. The blink resolves at your end step, long after your creatures have finished their work, which makes this an accrual engine rather than protection: it cannot be raised to save a threatened creature mid-combat, and a blocker gets nothing from it. The tapped clause narrows the pool the same way, since only bodies that have attacked, tapped for mana, or paid into an activation are legal targets. The flicker always lives downstream of using the creature first. That downstream position is also the payoff: the creature returns untapped, so an attacker gains pseudo-vigilance, and it re-fires whatever arrival ability it carries, whether that is a ramp body, a draw-on-arrival value creature, or a token-maker. Because the exile-and-return preserves the permanent, none of this generates death triggers; nothing dies, it simply leaves and comes back. The return also sends the permanent to its owner, so a temporarily stolen creature walks home rather than into your pile; this recurs your own board, it does not launder theft. As an enchantment it answers to enchantment removal like any other permanent, but the real durability is placement: seating a recurring flicker on a leader you can recast from the command zone every time the board resets.
