Firebreathing artifacts have always chased the same impossible schedule: they want to hit the board early enough to matter and stay relevant late enough to close, and the classic fixes were a scaling cost or a level-up track. This Dragon skips both and just prints two endpoints on one card. For eight, you land a 5/5 flyer with a firebreathing pump ( for +1/+0), a genuine finisher whose toughness lets it commit to combat rather than merely poke. For a fraction of that, you get a fragile 1/3 flyer that keeps flight and the same pump, a chip-damage evasion threat that converts surplus mana into reach. The keyword's whole point is on display here: rather than splitting the effect across two printings, the card offers both curve slots and lets available mana decide which one you cast. That is the elegant part. The flexibility lives entirely in the cast decision, not in some deferred activated engine, so the choice is a deckbuilding lever more than a combat trick. The pump ties the modes together and gives each a reason to exist: early, it turns idle mana into evasive damage; late, it makes the big body a threat that outscales blockers. One object, two legal costs, and the player picks the body-plan the game state wants.
