Fake Your Own Death

Instant1 generic manaBlack mana

Protection at instant speed usually reads as a shield: shrink the threat, redirect the removal, blink the creature out of range. This one takes the opposite tack. It doesn't stop the death; it monetizes it. Point it at a creature you expect to die (a blocked attacker, a sacrifice-outlet target, something already under a removal spell on the stack) and death becomes a two-for-one: the creature returns tapped and you're handed a Treasure for the trouble. The +2/+0 is a rider, not the engine, though it can turn a trade into a kill or push lethal; the real payload is the "when this dies" clause bolted onto a body that will predictably die. That's why it wants aristocrat shells and creatures with expensive enter-the-battlefield triggers: cast it before you sacrifice the creature and you aren't saving it, you're doubling its output while ramping into the next play. Most graveyard recursion happens at sorcery speed, after the fact, from a spell that costs more than the creature it returns. Here the recursion is pre-loaded onto the creature before it dies, at two mana, at instant speed, with mana attached. It rewards knowing your creature is doomed and choosing to profit from the death rather than prevent it.
