Faerie Mechanist

A 2/2 flier with an enter trigger that digs three cards deep for an artifact is the template that lets an artifact-matters deck run a real creature curve without diluting its hits. This is the artifact-world cousin of Mulldrifter and the rest of the card-advantage bodies: a flying creature that pays partial rent on itself by replacing the slot it fills, conditioned on you having actually built around artifacts. That condition is the whole balancing act. In a deck stuffed with artifacts, looking three deep finds a target most of the time; in a generic blue deck it whiffs and leaves you with a four-mana flier whose trigger did nothing. The reward scales with commitment, which is exactly how you want a theme-enabler creature priced. The reveal-an-artifact framing keeps the dig honest: you are not drawing into anything, you are mining specifically for the parts your deck already wants, and the rejected cards go to the bottom of the library rather than the graveyard, so there is no incidental fueling of recursion. As a role-player, the Mechanist functions as a litmus test for whether an artifact theme has enough density to be a real archetype rather than a pile of synergy cards: when it consistently finds a target, the deck is built; when it does not, the deck is bluffing.
