The energy mechanic asked a hard question of its support cards: how do you make a resource that arrives in trickles feel like it is paying off without funneling the deck toward a single combo payoff? This is the answer that turned energy into a counters engine. Every time energy flows in, a +1/+1 counter lands, which means the card cares not about how much energy you have banked but about the event of gaining it. A single trigger off a one-energy source pays the same as a flood from a big payoff, so the build-around incentive is to gain energy often rather than in bulk. That reframes energy generators as growth triggers and quietly shifts what the whole archetype is trying to do: not store toward a finisher, but accumulate board presence one event at a time. The second ability exists to keep the loop turning under its own power when nothing else is producing, a slow, expensive drip that guarantees the trigger never fully goes cold. It is a deliberately humble rate for a self-contained engine, and that humility is the point: the card wants to sit alongside cheaper energy sources and amplify them, not carry a deck alone. As a structural piece, it does the work that anthem effects and proliferate engines do elsewhere, but routed through a resource that other cards in the same family were already generating for unrelated reasons.
