Sorcery2 generic manaBlue mana

A cantrip usually leaves nothing behind: you replace the card and move on. Here the residue is a body. The Incubator token sits on the battlefield as a stored 3/3, waiting for the two mana that flips it into a creature, so the draw comes bundled with a delayed threat rather than pure card selection. That split payment is the interesting part. You spend to cast, draw immediately, and defer the rest of the value to a turn when you have mana to spare, which lets one card serve as both an early smoother and a later mana sink. The Phyrexian framing is doing real work in the mechanic too: the token starts inert and passive, an artifact that must be transformed to become the creature it was always meant to be, which is the Incubate keyword's whole conceit rendered flavor-first. As a piece of blue design it belongs to the lineage of cards that ask you to pay twice for a bundled effect, trading raw efficiency for flexibility across the turn cycle. The rate is honest rather than pushed: three counters is a fine body, the immediate draw means the card never sits dead in hand, and the transform cost stops the whole package from being free tempo.
