Eyeless Watcher
Four mana buys three bodies, but the 1/1 that pays the tax is the least of them. What matters is the pair of Eldrazi Scions it leaves in its wake, each a token that doubles as a stored point of colorless mana waiting to be cashed. That conversion is the entire strategic point: the Scions are deferred ramp, a way to bank board presence now and spend it later as the that powers the colorless-payoff end of an Eldrazi shell. Devoid does the connective work, stripping the card of green identity so it feeds a deck that cares about colorless permanents and casting costs rather than a green tribal one. The design answers a specific tension the Eldrazi mechanic posed: how do you give a midrange green deck access to large colorless threats without a dedicated ramp package? The Scion token, seeded across a spread of commons and uncommons in its era, was that answer, and this creature distributes it about as cleanly as the mechanic allowed: a body, two more bodies, and two future mana on a single card. Drone is the flavor of expendable Eldrazi infantry, and the mechanics honor it precisely; everything this creature makes exists to be spent.
