A board wipe with a built-in faction loyalty test. Functionally this is the mono-black answer to Wrath of God with the asymmetry baked into a single clause: every enchantment creature survives, which in the block this comes from meant gods and bestowed creatures walked away while everyone else perished. The design logic is what makes it more than a slightly-pricier sweeper. Sorcery-speed mass destruction has always been the tool that cleans up an opposing board you cannot otherwise fight, but the enchantment-creature exemption turns the spell into a deckbuilding contract: cast it freely if your threats are written on enchantments, eat the symmetry if they are not. That carving-out by card type (sparing creatures that are also enchantments) is the structural move, and it surfaces wherever a set wants a wrath that punishes one kind of board without punishing the caster who committed to the right shell. The cost of 4 generic manaBlack manaBlack mana puts it a full mana above the genre's classic five-mana baseline, which is the price of the conditional immunity rather than the destruction itself. As removal it is blunt; as design it is precise, asking whether your battlefield is the kind this spell was built to spare.
