The flat, unconditional 2/1 for a single white mana is the rate aggressive white decks had been asking for since Savannah Lions: two power that costs nothing extra to deploy, with no upside text muddying the value proposition. The Ally subtype is what makes it more than a curve-filler, but the design here is notable precisely for how little it leans on that synergy. Where most one-drops of the tribal-bonus era carried a clause that wanted other creatures in play, this one is just a body, the same way Savannah Lions and Elite Vanguard before it were just bodies, and the Ally tag is upside rather than a prerequisite. That distinction matters: a 2/1 that needs friends to be good is a worse Savannah Lions, while a 2/1 that happens to also be an Ally is a clean aggressive one-drop with a tribal floor underneath it. The single toughness is the cost of the rate, leaving it exposed to any incidental ping or chump-and-trade, but white weenie has always accepted that fragility in exchange for getting damage onto the board a turn ahead of schedule.
