Expanding Ooze
What the attack trigger cares about is not what most counters-matter cards care about. "Modified" is a category that bundles Equipment, Auras, and counters into one word, so the trigger reads any creature you control carrying gear or an Aura you control as a legal target, not just creatures that already have +1/+1 counters. That makes this a bridge between two archetypes that usually stay in separate lanes: the Voltron shell built around Equipment and Auras, and the counters-matter shell that wants proliferate fodder and outlets. It hands a counter to a suited-up attacker, and that counter is itself a modification, so the target stays modified and keeps qualifying next turn. The adapt line is the self-priming clause: with no +1/+1 counters on it, one activation makes the body modified, at which point its own attack trigger can target it and stack counters the ordinary way. Adapt's condition (no +1/+1 counters present) means the activated ability is a one-time on-ramp rather than a repeatable pump, so the mana stops going anywhere useful once the engine is running; the counters have to come from combat after that. This is a design that rewards a board already committed to the modified theme rather than one trying to build it from scratch, and it answers a quieter question than most gold cards of its stripe: how do you hand Equipment decks and counters decks the same three-drop and have both feel served?
