The conditional that defines this removal is the word "tapped," and at sorcery speed it changes the whole calculus. Unconditional exile is premium white removal at nearly any rate, so the design pays for that quality by tying the spell to a board state the opponent has already created: the creature has to be down, whether from swinging into you or from spending its untapped state on an activated ability. That gating makes it a reactive tool that resolves proactively. You cannot answer a fresh threat on an open board; you take the swing, untap, and then exile the creature that committed. The exile clause is where the card earns its slot: against indestructible bodies, persist creatures, recursive threats, or anything that wants to die, this is one of the few clean answers white gets on a four-mana sorcery, dodging regeneration, death triggers, and graveyard value entirely. The price is the timing mismatch. A disciplined opponent who keeps threats back, never attacks, or holds up creatures for instant-speed abilities can leave this stranded, because a sorcery offers no window to punish a single tapped attacker mid-combat. That tension, premium removal quality gated behind both the opponent's decision to tap a creature and the sorcery restriction on your own main phase, is the design, and it places the card in white's long tradition of answers that are excellent against a committed board and dead against a patient one.
