Everflowing Chalice
A mana rock priced as a slider rather than a fixed rate: cast it for nothing and it sits inert, or pour multikicker payments in and the charge counters set how much it taps for every turn after. The design trick is that multikicker converts a single card into a smooth curve of options. Pay once and it taps for one, a Sol Ring it is not; pay
four times and it taps for four off a single card, returning the eight mana spent in two activations and generating pure surplus from there. This inverts the usual logic of acceleration, which wants to land early and cheap: the Chalice gets better the longer you wait to cast it, because it scales with the mana you already have to dump into it. It rewards a deck that overflows, turning a flooded hand into an explosive turn rather than a string of dead draws. The charge counters are the other axis of value, and the elegant wrinkle is that its mana value stays 0 on the battlefield no matter how heavily it was kicked, so it dodges cost-based hate and slots into builds that proliferate or double counters to compound the accumulated total after the fact. The whole appeal is elasticity. Most rocks ask a fixed price for a fixed return; this one hands the decision to the deck and lets it commit as much or as little as the moment allows.
