Wire damage prevention to an artifact-creature trigger, hand it flash, and print the whole thing on a body that qualifies for its own shield: that is the design here. The prevention covers every artifact creature on the battlefield, including the Shieldmage itself, so flashing it in mid-combat blanks the entire damage step for both armies built on metal. The symmetry is the point and the cost: this is not a one-sided combat answer but a reset switch on the damage phase, useful precisely when you are the one being attacked or when a red sweeper would otherwise clear your metal board. Outside an artifact-heavy environment it does almost nothing, which is the restriction the design accepts; the payoff is total damage immunity for an army of artifact creatures on a turn of your choosing. The flash is what elevates a narrow effect into a real instrument: it ambushes an attack step rather than telegraphing the answer a turn early, and it lets the body double as a surprise blocker that survives because the prevention wraps around it too. It belongs to the family of conditional combat fogs that ask you to build the board they reward rather than fixing them to a single mode. The Vedalken Wizard frame and the gold cost place it squarely in an artifact-and-spells aesthetic where flashing in a blocker that also nullifies the swing was a signature trick of metal-based midrange.
