Eternal Warrior

Enchantment — AuraRed mana

Vigilance on an Aura is a strange piece of design real estate, and red is a stranger color to find it in. The keyword normally lives on white creatures as a printed ability, baked into the casting cost; bolting it onto a target after the fact, in red, treats vigilance as something you spend a card and a turn to install rather than a trait the creature was born with. Because it is an Aura without flash, it goes down at sorcery speed: this is no combat surprise but a deliberate commitment made before the swing, and the inherent fragility of Auras (a single piece of removal carries off the creature and your enchantment with it) is the real cost of the effect. The strategic point is narrow but real: red's aggressive creatures want to attack every turn, and a board where the attacker also blocks rewrites how the opponent sequences their own offense. The single red mana is the rate that makes the card make sense; anything more and the Aura risk sinks it. The curiosity here is not the effect but the era's instinct to spread combat keywords across the color pie through Auras, before Wizards consolidated those keywords into their home colors and stopped distributing them this way. Vigilance migrated almost entirely back to white and green, which is why this one reads as an artifact of its period rather than a piece of a living archetype.
