Dethrone is the keyword that tried to encode the unwritten rule of multiplayer (gang up on whoever is ahead) directly onto a stat line, and this is one of its plainest distillations: a fragile body that grows only by punching whoever the life totals have crowned. The mechanic was built for free-for-all games, where the leader in life total is a moving target and swinging at that leader is exactly the play the political math wants you to make anyway. The reward structure is honest about the risk: a 2/1 dies to nearly everything, so the counter is compensation for throwing the first punch and eating the retaliation. Crucially the trigger checks who is at the most life or tied for it at the moment of attack declaration, which makes it forgiving in an underdog spot: you never have to be behind the whole table, only aimed at whoever sits at the top of the count, and a two-way tie for the lead still arms the counter. Even in a duel the keyword turns live the moment your opponent pulls ahead or the totals level off, dialing up your clock when you most need tempo. As a card it asks little and gives little; it is fodder for an aggressive red shell that wants bodies happy to attack into a clearly defined enemy. The interest lives in the design, watching a keyword try to convert the social geometry of a crowded board into a number that grows on the creature that swings at the frontrunner.
