The trade here is mana consistency for raw card economy, and the bargain is unusually stark: front-load every Plains you want into exile, then draw them back one per upkeep instead of leaving them to the variance of your draw step. That first clause looks like self-mill until you reframe it as deck compression. Searching for "Plains cards" pulls anything with the Plains subtype (your basics, but also dual lands and shocklands that carry the type), and exiling them thins the library down to a deck stocked almost entirely with spells. Every subsequent draw pulls from that leaner pile, while the enchantment hands you a guaranteed land each upkeep regardless of what you topdeck. It is a slow-motion library filter that never misses a land drop and never floods you in the late game, because your lands now arrive on a fixed schedule. The "any number" clause is the underrated safety valve: if an opponent points removal at the enchantment in response to the entry trigger, you can simply resolve it by exiling zero Plains and lose nothing. The real exposure comes later, after the trigger has resolved and lands are sitting in exile; an enchantment-removal spell at that point strands whatever you have not yet drawn back. That fragility is the price of the consistency, and it is why the card reads as an engine rather than a value piece. It is a white take on draw-smoothing that converts the structure of a deck, rather than its color, into the source of consistency.
