Encroaching Wastes

Land

Strip Mine and Wasteland gave their utility away for free: nonbasic-land destruction at the cost of nothing but the land itself, payable the turn it untaps. This is the toned-down version of that effect, and the 4 generic mana activation is the whole difference. Where Wasteland fires the moment an opponent fetches their first dual, this one waits: you need four other mana on top of the tap and the sacrifice, which pushes the destruction out of turn-one disruption and into the midgame. That delay is what keeps it off the lists its predecessors haunt. The tradeoff lands cleanly for decks that want nonbasic hate without the cost of the real thing: it taps for colorless every turn it sits in play, so the slot costs nothing until you spend it, and by the time you can spend it, the land you blow up is one the opponent has already committed to and built around. It does not pressure greedy manabases the way the free versions do, because the damage from that fetched dual or creature-land is usually done before you can act. And the sacrifice clause makes it a single shot: the destruction consumes the land that produced it, so this is one targeted answer to one problematic nonbasic, not a recurring lock. What it offers is exactly that one clean removal, slotted into a deck that can afford to tap a turn late to fire it.
