Enchantress's Presence
When Verduran Enchantress arrived in Alpha as a fragile 0/2 that drew a card on enchantment casts, the engine was real but the chassis was a liability: any burn spell or blocker turned the whole plan off. The fix here is to take the body off the table entirely and bake the trigger into a permanent that nothing in the early game attacks. That single change is what made the Enchantress archetype tournament-viable rather than a casual curiosity: a deck that cantrips its way through a wall of cheap enchantments, each one paying for the next, can afford to play out a hand that would otherwise look like card disadvantage. The trigger fires on the cast, not on resolution, so it rewards you even when an enchantment is countered, and it stacks: multiple copies of this effect (or other enchantress effects alongside it) turn a single Wild Growth into a fistful of cards. What it does not do is protect itself or close a game; the draws are fuel, and the deck around it has to convert fuel into a win. That dependency is the whole identity. This is not a value engine you splash; it is the thing you build the deck to feed, and it remains the cleanest, most durable version of an idea Magic has been refining since the very first set.
