Most theft effects grab a creature and call it a day. This one reaches for a narrower category and a more important one: any legendary permanent, creature or otherwise. The legendary commander across the table, a singular artifact, a unique land, a planeswalker if it carries the supertype: all of it is a legal target, and the control granted lasts indefinitely rather than snapping back at end of turn. Because the activation is repeatable, this never settles for a single steal: untap, pay the cost again, and drag the next legend across the table, building a board of stolen crowns while their original owners watch. The price is a body that does nothing to defend itself, a 1/3 that wants to fire every turn and has to survive long enough to do it. When this design first appeared, "legendary" meant a thin scattering of unique creatures, and the targeting clause read as clever, narrow blue flavor. The same text reads very differently now, in an era where commanders anchor an entire format and legendary permanents fill every deck. A card whose target pool quietly swelled into some of the most valuable cards in the game, without a single word of its rules text changing.
