Embermaw Hellion
A flat +1 rider that does its work without ever touching the stack, applied to every red source you control except this one: the oracle text says "another red source," so the Hellion's own combat damage stays at face value while everything around it gets fatter. That exclusion is the tell about how to read the card. It is not a payoff that wants to swing on its own; it is an enabler that wants company. Because the bump is additive rather than multiplying, it scales with quantity, not quality: a single big spell gains the same lonely point that a board of one-damage pingers gains many times over. The math compounds fastest when you are throwing a lot of small numbers around, which is why it sits more naturally behind a deck of incidental burn and a flock of small red attackers than behind one finisher. The body is the honest half of the bargain: 4/5 with trample survives most of what kills a five-mana red creature and threatens to push through a chump block, but it does nothing the turn it lands and leans on the rest of your board to cash the rate. A build-around wearing a creature's stat line, worth precisely as much as the number of other red damage sources you can keep on the table, and close to inert in a deck that only brought the one.
