Elvish Healer

Creature — Elf Cleric2 generic manaWhite mana

Prevention scaled to the color of the body absorbing the hit: that conditional is the reason this exists. Tap to stop a single point of damage to anything, but aim the shield at a green creature and the prevention doubles. It is a mechanical handshake between white and green written when the elf tribe straddled both colors, the bonus firing only when you are propping up something on the green side of the table. Prevention keyed to a creature's color is a design dialect that faded once Magic steered its damage interaction toward removal and lifegain instead of fog-on-a-stick effects. The 1/2 frame matters more than the rate suggests: the prevention is repeatable, so it functions as a small recurring shield that resets each turn rather than a single spell spent once, even when most turns it produces only that lone point. What lingers is the balance philosophy underneath. Later white prevention runs scarce and blunt (prevent all combat damage, or all damage from one source); the notion that a creature would care specifically about the color of the thing taking the blow belongs to an early stretch of design when color identity was enforced down at the level of individual combat math. A fossil of that thinking, frozen on a 1/2 Elf Cleric.
