Elderfang Ritualist

Creature — Elf Cleric2 generic manaBlack mana

A 3/1 body wants to die, and this one is priced to make that death pay off: three power against one toughness is a frame that trades into almost anything, which is the point, because the dying is what fires the recursion. When it falls, whether in combat or to a removal spell, an Elf card walks back from the graveyard to your hand. The restriction that keeps it honest is that it returns an Elf card other than itself, so it cannot self-loop and leans on a tribe dense enough that there is always something worth pulling: a mana producer, a value creature, a hatebear worth a second cast. It belongs to a long tradition of tribal grindstones that reward committing hard to a creature type, the payoff scaling with how many other Elves are worth returning and evaporating to nothing when the graveyard runs dry. What matters is that this is a one-shot: the trade-and-refuel happens once, on the death that triggers it, so the card is a single node of value rather than a repeating engine. That framing changes how you spend it. It is fodder that leaves a card behind, a blocker that replaces itself, a body you are happy to throw under a bigger attacker precisely because losing it advances your hand. As a standalone attacker it does little; as a one-time refill on a board committed to Elves, it earns its slot on timing rather than stats.
