Echo Mage
Spell-copying has almost always lived on the spells themselves, where it fires once off the stack and goes to the graveyard. Pinning that effect to a creature with a tap cost is the wrinkle this design exploits: survive the climb, and you own a repeatable spell-doubler that threatens to copy every relevant instant or sorcery on the stack. The base 2/3 body holds the ground while you spend turns sinking into it, and the payoff arrives in two stages: a 2/4 that copies a spell once, then a 2/5 that copies it twice. That structural shape (a fragile creature that becomes a recurring copy engine if it lives) puts it in conversation with the rare permanents that double spells from play rather than as a single shot. The balancing act is severe in both directions. Each level-up is strictly sorcery-speed, so the ascent to the double-copy tier is a telegraphed, multi-turn project your opponent watches coming; and every activation still costs
and the tap, so the engine demands you keep a small, killable body breathing across the whole investment. It asks for a deck stacked with high-impact instants and sorceries genuinely worth resolving twice, and it returns nothing until you have committed mana to a vulnerable creature over several turns. Few cards from this keyword's brief experiment paid off the climb as cleanly, or asked you to risk so much to reach the top of it.
