Early Winter

Instant4 generic manaBlack mana

Unconditional creature exile is a rate black almost never gets to have. Where the color usually launders its removal through edicts, sacrifice, or -X/-X, this reaches out and answers any single creature cleanly: no death triggers, no regeneration, no crawling back from the graveyard. That permanence is what the five mana buys. The modal frame makes the caster choose, and the first mode is the one you reach for by default; the second, forcing an opponent to exile an enchantment they control, is a bonus that pokes into territory black historically lacks, not a hoop the card jumps through. Most turns you will simply exile a threat and never think about enchantments; the flexibility only matters when a Pacifism-style aura or a value engine sits across the table and hands you a second use. The tension in the design is that black is being handed a premium answer it is not supposed to have, and the tax is paid in raw mana rather than in a rider or a downside mode. Instant speed keeps both halves live: exile the attacker mid-combat, or strip a blocker before damage. It will not tuck away a creature to fizzle an enters-the-battlefield trigger, since that ability already sits on the stack independent of its source, but it answers the body itself as thoroughly as black ever does. This is expensive, deliberate removal for decks that would rather overpay than watch a threat return.
