Dwarven Ruins

Land

Tap it for one red, or sacrifice it for two: that choice is the whole card, and it belongs to a Fallen Empires cycle that gave each color a way to convert a permanent into a burst of mana. The brake is the tapped entry, which pays for the second mode by denying you the turn you play the land, so the explosive payoff (cashing the land in for a double dose of red) always arrives a beat later than you want it. That delay is what keeps the card honest; without it, a land that taps for one and then dies for two would be pure acceleration with no friction. The sacrifice mode reframes the land as a one-shot ritual stapled to a mana source: you can grind with it like a tapland, or you can spend it to power out a play your manabase could not otherwise support, but never both. The whole cycle (the green, white, blue, and black analogues alongside this one) shares that shape, trading permanence for a single moment of acceleration, and the math of when to hold versus when to crack remains the interesting decision the card asks every time it untaps.
