The symmetry is the gambit, and the trigger is mandatory: it fires at the start of every one of your upkeeps whether the table benefits or bleeds, with no opt-out and no chance to time it. Each player reveals the top of their own library, loses life equal to that card's mana value, then puts it into their hand. The cards are not shared and they are not drawn: everyone gets their own top card, and everyone loses life at the rate their own library demands. That is where the asymmetry hides inside the mirror. Run a flat, cheap curve and your tolls stay slight while a top-heavy opponent loses chunks for every expensive spell they peel; you are buying repeated card advantage at a price they cannot match, and the engine quietly rewards the lean deck while punishing the greedy one. The verb matters too: because cards go straight to hand rather than being drawn, the effect sidesteps anything keyed to the draw itself, slipping under draw-replacement and draw-trigger effects entirely. Most life-loss engines in these colors point one direction (Phyrexian Arena charges only its controller, Underworld Dreams charges only your opponents); this one bakes the cost into both sides and dares you to win the math by curving low. The evasive 4/4 turns the symmetry into a clock nobody can casually race, since every upkeep it survives refills both hands and tightens a count set not by what anyone casts but by what their deck is built from.
