Drill Bit

Sorcery2 generic manaBlack mana

Targeted discard has always fought a curve problem: it wants to strip a threat before the opponent deploys it, which means turn one or turn two, but a three-mana price puts it a beat behind the aggression it usually accompanies. The spectacle keyword answers that tension directly. Attach the discard to a condition an aggressive black deck meets by default (the opponent has already lost life), and the price collapses to a single black mana without touching what the spell actually does. That is the whole trade. In a deck that opens with a body and swings, spectacle is not a discount you build toward; it is the mode you cast in nine games out of ten, and the full cost becomes the fallback for the turn you failed to connect. The effect itself is the tournament-grade version of hand disruption: reveal, pick a nonland card, discard it, with no random component and nothing left on the board. The elegance lives in how the halves feed each other. The condition rewards the same early pressure that gives the discard its best targets, and the discard clears the follow-up blocker or removal spell that would have blunted the next attack. It is disruption written to live inside a clock rather than beside one.
