The conditional is the whole engine: a 2/2 body that does nothing on its own and a Saproling factory that only fires once you've spent another card making it the host. That gap between "creature" and "machine" is what the design is built around. Hang any green aura on it (a trample enabler, a pump, even something as humble as Rancor) and the upkeep trigger turns it into a token generator that ticks for both players' upkeeps, not just yours, which is a quirky doubling that rewards a board you can flood profitably. The tension is obvious: you're committing two permanents to a payoff that an opponent unravels by killing either half, and most removal answers the body more cheaply than you assembled the package. That fragility is why it never escaped the gravity of dedicated Aura and Saproling decks; it asks for a build where enchanting creatures is already the plan, so the druid is upside rather than a tax. The "each upkeep" wording is the part worth lingering on, since it's a small generosity that most token-makers don't extend: the engine pays out on the opponent's turn too, quietly compounding while you do nothing. A specialist's enabler, then, sized for a strategy that lives or dies on keeping an enchanted creature alive.
