Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection
Cast Scale Deflection for four and three effects resolve in one motion: an untap that turns a spent attacker back into a blocker (or springs a defender you tapped earlier), two +1/+1 counters that grow the target into a real clock, and hexproof that shields it through end of turn. That protective clause is the reactive payload; fired in response to a targeted kill spell or a bounce effect, it makes the answer whiff while your creature keeps growing. And the cast doesn't consume the card at all: the instant goes to exile, where it waits as a 7/6 body you cash in once seven mana arrives naturally. The Adventure frame is doing curve-smoothing work, parking a cheap protective trick and an expensive threat at two different points on the mana curve so neither sits dead in hand. The creature half is tuned deliberately: unblockable by anything with power 3 or less but stoppable by larger bodies, so the linnorm slips past tokens and mana dorks without ever guaranteeing lethal on its own. That evasion punishes go-wide boards while leaving a heavier defense intact, the honest tax on a 7/6 that would otherwise connect automatically. Two lanes on one card, live whether it shows up as the early trick or the late finisher.
