Dread Drone

The 4/1 body is a decoy: nobody runs this for the beater. The five-mana investment buys a creature that splits into three when it lands, and the two Eldrazi Spawn it leaves behind are the entire point. Each Spawn is a 0/1 that sacrifices for one colorless mana, so the card converts mana into deferred mana plus bodies, the kind of mana-fixing-into-acceleration that the colorless drones were built to feed. The Spawn double as Eldrazi-flavored ramp fuel (sacrifice two and an extra land, and the next turn's giant colorless threat comes online early) and as sacrifice ammunition for anything that eats creatures. That is what makes this more than a mediocre rate: it is three permanents from one card, and the value sits in how cheap and disposable the tokens are rather than in the fragile body stapled to the front. The drone itself is the worst part of the package, a glass-jaw attacker that dies to almost anything, but it was never meant to survive; it was meant to arrive, drop its payload, and trade away. In a sacrifice-and-fodder shell, the three-bodies-for-one math and the on-demand colorless mana do work that a single 4/1 never could.
