Drake Hatchling
A 1/3 flier and a +1/+0 rider are built to coexist rather than compete: the toughness lets it stick around through early ground exchanges and survive being chumped into a blocker, while the pump gives blue a way to convert a stalled board into incremental damage. The defensive body sets the patient posture, and the activation answers the obvious complaint about it, since a 1/3 evader never has the power to matter on offense by itself. The once-per-turn clamp is what keeps the activation honest. The ability asks for only a single blue mana, but the cap on uses means leftover lands buy you nothing extra: you cannot empty a flooded hand into the creature to spawn an arbitrarily large attacker the turn the board locks up. The power ceiling rises by exactly one point per turn, so the threat grows on a schedule instead of scaling with untapped mana. The +1/+0 effect itself, the one Firebreathing made famous and that Shivan Dragon turned into an archetype, has long been red's domain, so granting it to a blue flier reads as a quiet color-pie loan: blue keeps the evasion and the durable toughness, but the clock it gets in return is slow and taxed. What results is a creature tuned for the grinding game blue tends to prefer, trading reach and speed for staying power and a clock it can advance one point at a time.
