Dragonstorm

Nine mana to fetch a single Dragon onto the battlefield is a price almost no deck would pay at face value, which is exactly the point: Dragonstorm is built to be cast for far less, or not paid for at all. Storm rewrites the math, turning every cantrip, ritual, and free spell cast earlier in the turn into another Dragon dragged out of the library. The line that defines it is the ritual chain: a stack of mana-positive spells builds the storm count high enough that the becomes incidental, and a board of Bogardan Hellkite or Hellkite Charger arrives all at once, often with lethal hanging off the triggers. It sits at the far end of Storm's design philosophy, where the headline card is a payoff so heavy it could never be a clean tempo play; the surrounding deck exists to make casting it possible, and the spell justifies no turn on its own. That tension is the design: a sorcery whose printed cost functions as a deterrent against ever paying it, daring you to assemble the count instead. The "permanent card" wording is rules plumbing, not a toolbox hint: it stops a Tribal Dragon instant or sorcery from being put onto the battlefield, since the only real targets are Dragon creatures. The result is a combo finisher that reads like a clunky tutor and plays like a one-card win the moment the engine has done its work.
