Dormant Grove // Gnarled Grovestrider
Most transforming permanents flip on a phase change or a fixed sacrifice; this one flips when you clear a threshold you set yourself. The enchantment half wants a single creature to grow, and its trigger only cares about one number: toughness six. Reach it, and the grove wakes into a Treefolk that hands vigilance to your whole board. That threshold is the clever part of the design, because it ties the payoff to the same act that powers it. Each combat you pick a creature to fatten, and the counter you place is doing double duty: building a threat while inching toward the flip. The choice of target matters, since a creature already near six toughness can convert the enchantment in a turn or two, while spreading counters wide stalls the transformation indefinitely. What makes the front face patient rather than passive is that the counter lands regardless; even if you never reach the toughness gate, you are still buffing a creature every turn at no additional cost. The back half's board-wide vigilance is the reward for committing to a go-tall plan, letting an anthem-fueled team attack without dropping its guard. It is an engine built around a single ascending number, where the same resource that threatens the win condition unlocks the second card printed underneath it.
