How this card plays

The counter-relocation clause is the engine, and it asks for a specific kind of deck: one where counter-bearing artifacts die on purpose so the counters carry forward onto the next body. The trigger moves whatever counters the dying artifact held, not just +1/+1 counters, so a deck running charge-counter or oil-counter artifacts gets to redeploy those too. That widens the build past pure +1/+1 strategies, but the cleanest home is still an artifact-counters board. Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer is one honest fit, where animated Robots feed the token-copy plan and the death trigger keeps the counters alive as tokens churn. A self-built Marneus Calgar counters shell is the other, leaning on the relocation to recycle investment through removal. Skip the reflexive instinct to list a green artifacts commander here; the card is blue, and the relocation only pays off when the deck is already pointed at this loop.

This is a Bracket 2-3 piece. The sorcery-speed clamp on the animation and the four-mana, do-nothing-the-turn-it-lands tempo cost keep it out of Bracket 4-5, and it is too synergy-dependent to earn a precon slot. Sub-$5 to acquire; price gates nobody out of the archetype.

Its role is resilience, not curve. Against a plain animator like Karn, Scion of Urza, Donatello's edge is that removal aimed at your Robots refunds the counters instead of erasing them. The drawback is the inverse of haste: you tap, you wait, and a board wipe before you untap is pure tempo loss. In multiplayer that slowness reads as low-threat, which is fine; nobody spends a Swords to Plowshares on a 3/5 that needs a turn cycle to matter. Outside artifact-counters builds it is a blank.

Tap: Put three +1/+1 counters on target artifact you control. If it isn't a creature, it becomes a 0/0 Robot creature in addition to its other types. Activate only as a sorcery. Whenever an artifact you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, if it had counters on it, put those counters on up to one target artifact or creature you control.
