Distant Memories

Sorcery2 generic manaBlue manaBlue mana

The trick here is the same one Fact or Fiction asks an opponent to perform, inverted: instead of splitting cards into piles and letting the controller choose, this hands an opponent a single binary. Give you the exact card you tutored for, or watch you draw three. The tension is real because the choice is rarely symmetric. If you fetched a game-ending bomb, the opponent eats three fresh cards to deny it; if you fetched something mundane, they happily hand it over and keep you off the dig. So the spell becomes a negotiation between what you actually want and what you can convince the table you want, and against a single opponent that read is much sharper than against a full pod, where any one player can spoil the draw-three by relenting. The structural weakness is that the opponent always picks the outcome that helps them most, which means the card is at its best when both halves are genuinely good for you: a tutor target you'd happily run out, backstopped by three cards if they refuse. That symmetry is hard to engineer, which is why this kind of opponent-decides design has stayed a curiosity rather than a staple. It rewards the player who can dress a real haymaker up as a mediocre dig, and punishes the one who fishes for three cards with a target so unthreatening the opponent simply hands it over and calls the bluff.

Search your library for a card, exile it, then shuffle. Any opponent may have you put that card into your hand. If no player does, you draw three cards.
