Destructive Force
Wildfire scaled past the point where symmetry behaves like symmetry. Where that card strips four lands and burns four off every creature, this raises both halves to five, and that extra increment is exactly the difference between a sweeper a midrange board can survive and one it cannot: four damage leaves a few stragglers, five clears nearly everything a fair deck has committed. The math is the entire strategic premise. The seven-mana price tag is what makes the symmetry a trap rather than a fair trade. By the time the cost is online, the caster has usually built the board presence or mana engine that walks away from a mass land sacrifice everyone pays equally; the opponent rarely has. The clause both players pay first hits the caster too, so the deck has to function on two lands and whatever big-mana payoff justified reaching seven in the first place. That makes it less a tempo swing than a reset button for ramp and fatty decks that can rebuild from rubble faster than the opponent can: a card that reads as a coin flip on the page and resolves as a one-sided execution at the table. It belongs to the narrow family of red sweepers that attack lands and bodies in the same breath, where the cost of getting there is part of the filter on who gets to cast it at all.
