Demon's Due

Instant3 generic manaBlack mana

Night's Whisper set the price of two cards in black a generation ago: two mana, two life, sorcery speed. This spends two extra mana to buy the flash, then hands back the difference by stacking a scry 2 in front of the draw, so the life you pay stays identical and the top of your library is smoothed before you commit to keeping it. The sequencing is the whole argument for the premium. Scrying before you draw lets you bottom two blanks and dig toward exactly what the instant window demands, whether that is an answer to a threat you just watched resolve or the second half of a plan you can now assemble at the end of an opponent's turn. As black card advantage it sits deliberately between the cheap-and-painful draw spells and the expensive-but-free ones: the two life is a nod to black's oldest tax on knowledge, kept small enough that the effect reads as a resource rather than a gamble. Nothing here reaches for flash, and nothing needs to. It is a clean, castable instant that trades a little tempo and a little life for information and cards, on your opponent's turn if you want it there.
