Scalable X-spell burn is old, but this design buys two things the baseline Fireball lineage never offered: the damage exiles, and emptying your hand turns it into a hard, prevention-proof kill. The exile clause is the quieter of the two and the more durable. Most X burn just deals damage, leaving undying creatures and recursion-soaked threats to come back; routing a lethal hit to exile instead closes those doors and makes this a clean answer to graveyard-recursion problems that ordinary direct damage shrugs off. The Hellbent rider is the louder half and the one that defines how the card asks to be built. Spend your hand, then point it at a face: the spell resolves through countermagic and ignores fog effects and damage prevention entirely, precisely the protection a topdecked lethal swing wants when both players are running on fumes. That pairing is the design tension worth sitting with. Hellbent rewards the empty-handed, all-in red player; the exile clause rewards the patient one who wants reliable removal. The card serves both without forcing a deckbuilding choice, since the floor (X damage to anything, with exile attached) is useful at any hand size and the ceiling only unlocks once you have committed everything. The same spell answers a threat or ends the game, and which one it is depends entirely on what you are holding when you cast it.
