Provoke usually comes with a death sentence: a small body pulls a far larger creature into combat, trades poorly, and dies for the privilege. This soldier buys its way out. For one and a white mana, all combat damage to and from it is prevented, so the 1/1 can yank a giant into a block and stroll away untouched. The activation runs both directions, which is the honest constraint on the design: the body deals no damage either, so it never kills what it provokes. What it sells instead is subtraction. Each combat it names a defender, untaps it, forces it into a brawl it cannot refuse, and removes it from the math: that creature neither dies nor guards anything else for the turn, while a second attacker swings unblocked or a burn spell handles the rest. The prevention is what makes the recursion possible, since the soldier survives to drag the same blocker out of position again next turn. Left to its own attacks it is a porous defender and a slow clock. Pointed at a defensive line, it reframes every attack step around which single creature you intend to neutralize, and an opponent's best blocker keeps getting pulled where it does no good with no clean answer.
