Lifegain-to-drain conversion is old machinery, but this build wires it directly to the attack step. The middle clause grants a single point of life for each of your creatures that connects, and the end-step trigger converts everything you gained that turn into life lost across the whole table. The elegance is that the two abilities feed each other: a wide board of attackers racks up incidental gains that the demon then weaponizes as a symmetrical drain against every opponent, not just the players who took hits. Because the trigger counts life gained rather than damage dealt, it rewards flooding the board with bodies over building a single fat threat, and it invites lifegain sources beyond combat, since the end-step math tallies everything gained that turn. Menace on the 5/4 helps keep the loop online: it requires two or more blockers to stop the demon, making its own connection harder to deny. The real tension is that the drain is a snapshot, not a stockpile. The life you gain is yours permanently and it stays on your total, but the drain output resets to zero at the start of each turn; there is no carryover in the payoff itself. That is what makes the card a burst engine rather than a slow bleed: the end-step life loss scales with how much you can pile into one turn cycle, so the reward tracks the number of attackers you point forward at once rather than any single one of them.
