The whole point of emerge was to make a ten-mana haymaker arrive several turns ahead of schedule without feeling like a cheat, and this is the keyword's most aggressive expression. The printed cost reads as unplayable; the emerge cost is the real one, and it shrinks by the mana value of whatever you sacrifice. Convert a four-drop and you are paying five mana for a 7/7 with haste that swings the same turn and drags your whole board with it. The cast trigger is the part that turns a fat beater into a finisher. It triggers when you cast the spell, which means it goes on the stack above the Boar and resolves first, even if someone holds a counterspell for the creature underneath it. So the +2/+2-and-trample buff lands on the rest of your team and connects whether or not the 7/7 itself ever resolves. (The Boar is still on the stack when the trigger goes off, so it misses its own pump; it has built-in trample anyway.) That sequencing is the design lever. Emerge asks you to commit a creature first, then pays you for the new threat before it can be answered, locking in the swing in board state even against interaction. The friction is that you trade two bodies into one and need a battlefield wide enough for the buff to matter. It sits at the top of the emerge cycle as the payoff that asks the most setup and returns the most for it.
