Debtors' Transport

Creature — Thrull5 generic manaBlack mana

Afterlife turns this Thrull into material split across time: a fragile ground-bound 5/3 now, then two 1/1 fliers when it dies. That structure is exactly what a sacrifice-and-recursion deck wants, because it converts a single removal spell or a losing block into extra bodies rather than a dead investment. The flavor tracks the mechanic cleanly, since a Thrull is Ravnica's disposable servant-class laborer, and this one pays out its debt in Spirits at the moment it expires: death as a conversion event, not a setback. What keeps the card off the "pure engine" shelf is the timing, since the Spirits only arrive on death, so the value is latent rather than immediate. You pay a poor rate for a mediocre attacker and get repaid once the graveyard, not the battlefield, becomes the point. In a vacuum the stat line reads like filler beatdown, and that is fair; the interesting axis is what happens after the body hits the yard, feeding go-wide token strategies, aristocrat drains, and anything that treats a creature's death as a resource. Afterlife 2 is the specific dial here, splitting the payoff between the front-loaded 5/3 and the two evasive tokens rather than piling all the value into one or the other.
