Dead Revels

Sorcery3 generic manaBlack mana

Mass creature recursion has always paid a tax in mana: Rise from the Grave, Grim Discovery, the venerable Gravedigger line, all charge full price to buy your creatures back. Spectacle is the discount, and it reframes the whole transaction. At the printed rate this is a fair, unhurried rebuy: four mana for two bodies out of the yard, the kind of grind card a control shell is happy to sit on. Meet the aggression condition (any life loss from any opponent, not just combat) and the price collapses to two mana for the same haul, which is where it stops being a value spell and starts being an engine. That gap is the design's entire personality. The spectacle cost is cheapest exactly when you can least afford to spend a turn digging: you keep attacking, you keep sacrificing, you keep pinging, and the graveyard refills your hand for a song. Among the black spectacle spells built to punish a bleeding opponent, its structural note differs from the burn and the discard: it is a resource loop that only becomes efficient once you have committed to the beatdown. The discount is earned with damage you were already going to deal, and the reward is the pieces to deal it again.
