Darkwater Egg

Artifact1 generic mana

Sacrifice fodder that pays you for the privilege: the Dimir member of the egg cycle turns a one-mana artifact into fixing and a draw, with the catch that you have to feed it the egg to collect. It colors the deck Ub and refills the hand, which fits an era built around stocking the graveyard with cheap permanents: every egg cracked is a card toward threshold and an artifact in the bin for whatever cares about cards there. The two-stage cost is the design's spine. You pay 1 generic mana to drop the egg, then 2 generic mana and a sacrifice to cash it, so the mana is split across turns and the card never gives you everything at once. That deliberate inefficiency is what made the cycle a graveyard engine rather than a ramp piece: the egg exists to die, and dying is the point. As raw fixing it is slow, and as card draw it is overpriced, but the cycle was never priced as either in isolation. It was priced as a permanent you want in the bin: a turn-one play that promises a future trade of mana for a card and a graveyard entry, on your schedule.
