Cut the Earthly Bond

Instant — ArcaneBlue mana

The constraint that defines this card is also the one that nearly disqualifies it: it can only target a permanent that is already enchanted. That makes it a removal spell parasitic on the board state rather than dictating it, which is why it has never found a real home in fair decks. Where it earns a second look is the asymmetry built into the targeting. The card returns the permanent to hand, not the Aura attached to it; that Aura goes to the graveyard as a state-based action once its host vanishes. Against a control player who has spent a card stapling pacifism-style removal onto your threat, a single blue mana resets the exchange, refunds your creature, and strands their enchantment in the bin. Pointed at your own board it is stranger still: bounce a creature already wearing one of your Auras to dodge a removal spell on the stack, then recast the body clean. Its Arcane typing is the quiet tell, marking it as a host for the splice mechanic of its era, the kind of spell other cards latch onto for incremental value rather than something you would cast for its own text alone. It is a narrow answer with a precise window, the effect that does nothing in nine games and quietly two-for-ones an opponent in the tenth.
